Sophie was doing well tonight, partly because she has already learnt some of the words from school. Of course it helps that she likes to name food. After her “success”, she started toying with the book and its contents. I had a good laugh but I tried to stay serious, after all, I am a SERIOUS teacher!
Tonight, we tried another book. Compared to the previous one, we took less time. I think Sophie is getting it finally! And with all my scolding and threats, she is putting in a wee bit more effort now in learning. Strange as it might be, she is starting to have more confidence in reading Chinese after our intense session yesterday.
I told myself that “enough is enough”! This set of Chinese readers has been sitting on our bookshelf for far too long. My helper touched (wiped) the books more often than we look at them. It cost us almost $200. It is time to “force” Sophie to read them.
I picked the easiest one (repetitive text and familiar subject matter) for her to read. After one full day, she still did not manage to read all the characters. I was a little disappointed but I knew she probably tried her best already. I was so bored I nearlt dozed off as she struggled to read each character.
I am a SAHM in training and together with my husband, we try to raise and nurture a happy, lively and intelligent little girl to the best of our ability.
